The Girl Who Played with Fire is the 2nd book in Stieg Larsson’s “Millenium Trilogy” series and I received it last year for Christmas. I started reading it at the pool this summer right after the move but quickly realized I wasn’t in the mood for a murder mystery / thriller book at the time. However, after seeing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo last week I couldn’t wait to start reading this book again.
Lisbeth is blamed for a crime when evidence places her at the crime scene, and the incident has a connection to Blomvist and Millenium magazine. Blomvist is convinced that she’s innocent and starts investigating to find out what really happened. During the course of the investigation, parts of Lisbeth’s childhood and past start to unfold.
I had heard that this book is so much better than the first and I completely agree. I was hooked from the first chapter and could hardly put it down! I understand now that the first book was so slow because it really devoted detail to character development, and that definitely attributed to me liking this book so much. Readers also begin to truly understand Lisbeth’s personality and why she is the way she is. This book is also a lot less violent and graphic than the first.
My only word of caution is to have the 3rd book handy because you will immediately want to start reading it after you finish this one!
