If you have not read this book, you need to buy/download it ASAP! This is one of the best books I have read in a LONG time.
The Kite Runner is a story about two Afghan boys, Amir and Hassan, living in Kabul just as the soviets and then the Taliban being to destroy the country. Amir is from a well off family and constantly experiences internal conflict as he seeks approval from his father, whom he has nothing in common with. Hassan and his dad are the ‘lower class’ Hazara muslims, and they are Amir’s family servants. Amir and Hassan have a deep friendship but Amir allows cultural hierarchy blur the lines between right and wrong; it changes their friendship forever.
This book touches on so many things… the relationship between a father and son, right vs. wrong, pride vs. betrayal and more importantly redemption. I could not put it down!
