I feel like it has been a long time since I have really been able to have a clear enough head to write in this blog. Things have been so crazy! I really hope now that things have calmed down, I will be able to enjoyably write in this blog like I used to :) So here has what has been going on with us for the past 3 or so months…
School
I mistakenly thought I was done with school in December. I have been taking classes so I can receive what is called a Verification Statement (basically a statement saying I’m eligible to complete a dietetic internship). When I emailed my advisor about how I would receive this, she told me I needed to re-take the first semester of Medical Nutrition Therapy before I could be done with school. I got a C+ in that course when I had to get a B- or better. I was so upset because I did not know I needed to get a B- or better. Long story short, I was able to get added in to the class last-minute and I’m now plugging away until May!
Dietetic Internships
I’ve applied to 5 dietetic internships. I will only get matched with 1 program and I find out in April. I’m so nervous! Applying to internships was one of the most stressful experiences of my academic career. There were so many components to making each application complete. The day I submitted everything was one of the happiest days of my life! Only 2 of the schools I applied to give interviews and I got interviews to both. I had 1 interview yesterday, which I think went well, and I have another one at the end of the month.
Work
Work has been incredibly crazy ever since December. My former boss resigned in November and my new boss started in February. I loved my old boss (like, really loved her) but it was hard for me to focus on moving forward while she was trying to wrap up things. I will miss her. We had a huge review from the state last week, which has been hanging over my head all year. Also, my grandfather passed away the week before that so I was out of work the week right before the review! I felt so bad but you can’t help when things like that happen. Thankfully everything went well. School nutrition is weird because you do a lot of planning for the next school year during the spring- as in now. I’m not ready for that yet!
The Home Life
I have been taking guitar lessons since the beginning of the year. I really like my instructor and feel like I’ve learned a lot. The guitar is very different than any other instrument I’ve played before (piano, clarinet, sax and trombone). You really have to develop what is called finger independence and that has not been easy for me… but I’m getting there! I also joined a gym in February. I have no idea why- between school, work and my internship application, the death in my family and the state review at work, I hardly had time to sleep, let alone work out. I am giving myself a week to rest and recuperate from the past month and then I would like to get back into a routine of working out.
K
He’s good. He’s been sick for the past few days with a cold, though :( Poor guy. I hope he gets well soon!
The Dogs
We have had quite a time with Lily. Our vet has determined that she has allergies, either to food or environmental, and that has been causing all of her issues. Her skin is constantly broken out, she gets frequent ear infections and has been obsessively licking her paws. She has been on a combination of steroids, allergy medicine and antibiotics since December. She is on a 2-month food trial now to eliminate food allergies. After that, we are going to look at a permanent medication (like an antihistamine or other drug) to hopefully control environmental allergies. We had the dogs boarded for over a week when my grandfather passed away and Beamer got some sort of bacterial infection. That is frustrating because he is our dog that is never sick. Thankfully we went to the vet this week and he is already doing much better.
Soooooooooo, that is what has been going on this year!
