I’m going to go ahead and apologize for my lack of updating this week. I am trying to wrap up things at work in preparation for my internship and I have felt a little overwhelmed.
Here are some highlights from the past week:
1. First trip to the farmer’s market this year
Charlotte has an awesome farmer’s market and I don’t take advantage of it nearly as much as I should. Of course I finally decided to go down there this past weekend and it started pouring down rain the same morning. I went down there anyway and it seemed like there were not a lot of vendors there… not sure if it was the weather or what (it’s under a shelter). I picked up some yellow squash, zucchini, eggplant and basil. I ended up chopping the vegetables and roasting them in basil, olive oil and garlic. This is a perfect veggie dish for spring!
2. Took a trip to the library
I don’t know what it is about the library but stopping by every once and a while makes me feel happy inside. I think it’s because I love reading and think it’s great that you can ready anything you want for free.
One of my coworkers recommended Blackberry Winter to me a few months ago and it has been on my Goodreads list since then. I looked up several other books that I wanted to read on the library’s online catalog and this was the only one that did not have a wait list. I really loved Sarah Jio’s style of writing and read the book in one afternoon. It was a great read- I recommend it! I also picked up another book called The Bungalow that I might start reading tonight.
3. New Kicks
I have a confession to make: I’m a Brooks junkie. I have been wearing Brooks as my running shoe for the past 9 years. I am a loyal customer but last year I bought the Adrenaline GTS 12 and hated them. They felt weird on my foot and the back came up too high on my heel. I actually couldn’t even wear half of my running socks with them because the socks didn’t come up high enough; the shoes gave me blisters. The other night I walked 5 miles on the greenway and my feet/ankles/knees hurt so bad afterwards. I was excited because I knew it was time to get new shoes :)
I hated my GTS 12s so much that I was thinking about trying out a different brand of shoes. I headed to Run for Your Life in Charlotte to get fitted for something else. I ended up trying Asics and Sauconys but ultimately went with the Brooks GTS 13. They felt really good on my feet and I love them so far.
Side note: I think it is completely worth it to pay a little bit of extra money and purchase shoes from a local running store. These types of stores take the time to examine your gait, talk to you about what’s not working with your current shoe and offer you good alternatives. The sales people at R4YL have always been great and I love shopping there. And no, they did not pay me to say that.
4. We tried out a new church last weekend
I consider myself a spiritual person but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve grown apart from an organized religion. I think part of it has to do with the fact that I grew up attending the same church for my entire life and had an AWFUL minister during my middle and high school years. We have only tried out 1 church since we moved here and had such a negative experience (as in, we almost got up and left during the sermon because it was that offensive) that we have never been interested in finding something else. We tried out a new church on Sunday and I actually liked it. The sermon was about marriage and I thought the minister had some good points. Church makes me feel at peace so I’m glad that we may have found a place that we may like.
5. My internship starts in <2 weeks!
It’s hard to believe that I will be an intern soon. I’m nervous about a lot of things like flying to my orientation, a group project we have to do, reviewing things I’m not familiar with (like clinical work), taking a step back in my career, etc. I know it will be a great experience for me but change is always scary.
Here are some other pics from this past week:

Have a great weekend!
