Howdy.
I hope everyone is have a fantastic post-Thanksgiving weekend. I’m currently munching on some Thanksgiving leftovers…
My Thanksgiving post on Thursday was a little brief and I feel like I didn’t give enough props to this holiday. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it’s all about spending some time with your family and being thankful what you have. Thanksgiving also has nothing to do with giving gifts… Sometimes I feel like the spirit of Christmas gets overshadowed by gifts, which is why I think Thanksgiving > Christmas. So here are some things that I’m especially thankful for this year:
My husband: He is really just a great guy. He has been so supportive of me and has always encouraged me to go after what I want in life. And for bonus points, he sometimes refills my wine glass when I’m taking a bubble bath. Does it get better than that? No, I don’t think so.
Our families: I’m really thankful for my family and my in-laws. Not really sure where to even start with this one so I’ll leave it at that.
My grandmother: I know a lot of people aren’t lucky enough to have their grandparents in their lives as they reach their late 20s, so I am definitely thankful that my grandmother is still here. Last Thanksgiving, my grandfather’s memory had started to fade and I overheard her telling him how lucky they were that everyone was coming to their house for Thanksgiving. That was my grandfather’s last Thanksgiving with us. Thinking of her saying that still makes me teary-eyed.
Getting through my internship: Saying the the last 6 months have been intense would be an understatement. On top of that, I took a 6-month leave of absence from work. I was SO hesitant about doing this but we survived :)
Healthcare: I’m not trying to get political here but doing DI rotations at 2 different hospitals and a health department really opened my eyes to the healthcare crisis going on in this country. I think when you have access to great, low-cost healthcare that it’s really hard to empathize with people that don’t. I came in contact with a lot of people who were in truly heartbreaking situations. I’ve always had access to preventative healthcare, never had to think about whether I could afford to go to the doctor or not, never had to make a decision about whether I should buy groceries for my children or purchase medication I needed to survive. I am truly thankful for this and hope that I never take it for granted again.
Life overall: I’ve got a roof over my head, a working vehicle, stable job and everything I need… can’t ask for more than that.
So yep, happy belated Thanksgiving :)

K and I avoided the Black Friday masses because we both worked yesterday. We did drop by the mall at 8pm yesterday night to pick up a few Christmas gifts. I did a bunch of Christmas shopping this morning and we went to Costco this afternoon. This was a good plan because there were NO crowds and we still got some excellent deals. I may or may not have purchased some gifts for myself…
We had a little lunch date at Cantina 1511 where I had another *amazing* Chimichanga. Their salsa is also pretty tasty as well. If you live in Charlotte, you.need.to.go.there! Best Mexican food ever.
I also need to note that Virginia Tech beat UVA today. Go Hokies! And what about the Alabama/Auburn game? Crazy ending.
Tomorrow’s agenda: meal plan, laundry, cleaning and watching some Panther’s football.
Have a great weekend!
