Hello, everyone! I hope your Tuesday is treating you well. I’ve had a pretty good day so far.
On Sunday evening, I ventured into unchartered territory… I cooked with raw tortillas for the very first time.
I’ll just be honest here and say that I don’t love cooked flour tortillas (the kind you can find in the bread aisle). I think they’re fine when they are used to make deli wraps but I don’t really like them in Mexican dishes. The tortillas are too thick for my liking and I always feel like the bread taste overpowers the filling & sauce used in the dish.
So I got really excited when I found these uncooked tortillas at Costco!
Here is the back of the packaging:
Likes: 140 calories per tortillas (pretty in line with other 8” tortillas), very few ingredients
Dislikes: No fiber, comes in a pack of 36 tortillas but they do not recommend freezing
I used them to make chicken enchiladas. They are nice and thin and I didn’t have a problem with them ripping. They didn’t stick to any surfaces while I was rolling the enchiladas. I realized after I baked everything that the tortillas will stick to each other if you really overlap them. I did suffer 1 enchilada casualty because of this.
The verdict? I loved them and will definitely use them for burritos and enchiladas from now on I also stuck half of them in the freezer, so I will see what the quality is like whenever I pull them back out.

Hi, just stumbled on your blog while trying to find some uncooked tortillas online. Just want to mention a couple of pointers. Enchiladas are using made with corn tortillas. Not that it was a bad idea to use flour. It certainly was creative. Also, I think you should cook your flour tortillas a bit before preparing the enchiladas for the oven. Otherwise the tortillas won’t cook thoroughly.
Best,
Pablo
Thanks for the pointers!
