Hey there and happy Sunday to you! We have had a busy but fun-filled weekend!
I went on a pretty muddy bike ride Friday evening.
I actually slid off of my bike at one point… it was pretty messy. My shoes, legs and bike were so muddy that I ended up hosing myself off in the car wash when I came home. The perks of living in an apartment complex.
We started our Saturday by waking up bright and early to volunteer at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.
All of the volunteers were split into groups and our group’s task was to sort through medication. We discarded anything that was expired and organized what was left into individual boxes for redistribution. The ‘good’ stuff is sent on to another agency that distributes it to those in need. We were in a group of about 15 and we sifted through probably thousands of over-the-counter meds.
The food bank is a large organization and they do so much for the Charlotte area. The volunteer coordinator told us that they re-distribute food to hundreds of different organizations to help people in need. How crazy is that?
I actually worked with them earlier this year when I was still working with the schools. We had a large amount of commodity food product that we were not going to be able to use. I emailed the food bank and they drove their truck up to our office (an hour from them) the next day to pick everything up. It made me appreciate everything they do even more, and I was happy that all of that food would go to people who need it and not to waste. The volunteer coordinator said they they staff 40 employees and rely on volunteers for everything else. If you are in the Charlotte area and have some free time then they could really use your help!
All of the leaning over bins and packing/moving boxes for 3 hours really worked up an appetite, so we grabbed lunch at Sauceman’s BBQ when we were done. I’m glad we don’t live down in that part of Charlotte or else I would be eating there all.the.time. Sauceman’s has *the best* BBQ and fried pickles!!
Sauceman’s also happens to be right down the street from a brewery called Lenny Boy. We had never been there before so we decided to check it out after we were done with lunch.
Lenny Boy originally started out brewing Kombucha and has recently expanded to also brew beer. I had never had Kombucha before but there’s a first time for everything, right? After sampling a few things, K ended up getting a flight of beer and I got a flight of Kombucha. My flight included 4 different types of Kombucha and 1 Kombucha Ale. The ale was called a Peach Bomb and I loved it! K also really liked their beer.
I stopped by Birkdale later that evening and had to share this outfit I tried on in Lululemon. Guys, nothing says “workout” like a romper.
I’m keeping a low profile today, but did manage to look through our fridge and pantry this morning and do a little bit of meal planning. Here’s what’s on the menu for this week:
- Chicken burrito bowl
- Spaghetti w/ meat sauce
- Slow cooker pork roast
- Baked salmon w/ lemon dill sauce
- Meatloaf w/ baked potato
- Tempura chicken w/ egg roll
- Packed punches this week –> leftovers or sandwiches, fresh fruit, veggies
Some things planned for later today include a run, grocery shopping, and hopefully testing out some road bikes. Oh, and I also need to figure out what I’m doing to wear to work tomorrow. Decisions, decisions.
Just kidding Have a great evening!
