Well, it’s officially been a week since my doctor diagnosed me with plica issues and so far, all I can say is being sidelined is no fun. I didn’t realize how exercising was so much a part of my daily routine until I couldn’t do it. I can now commiserate with all of those runners out there who are down in the dumps when nursing and injury. It really is a bit depressing! And let’s be honest… it’s a lot easier to indulge in a nice scoop of ice cream when you’ve just finished an intense workout.
I’m trying to do everything I’m supposed to do to heal quickly, which includes taking my prescription anti-inflammatory daily, icing religiously, and avoiding running and anything else that causes pain, like cycling. I am even taking the elevator at work so I can avoid 3-4 flights of stairs. I have yet to feel any improvement in my knee and I’m honestly a little surprised and frustrated by this. I was expecting to not be feeling so much soreness after 2 full weeks of rest.
Basically, I’m the most impatient person ever.
I stare at my bike every night and think about the good times we had together <3
So to make myself feel better, the plans are in motion for me to start swimming once my knee pain subsides. I’m a little apprehensive about it because I don’t want to set myself back, but the ortho told me I could do things if they didn’t cause me pain… so we’ll see.
I’m looking to change gyms and today I went and toured the Y. I didn’t have time to sign up for a membership (I was on my lunch break and the clock was ticking…) but I’m planning on it sometime in the next week.
I read in their pool dress code that they don’t allow 2-pieces, which meant I needed a new swimsuit. I decided to spare myself the experience of trying on bathing suits in the store and ordered a Speedo online instead.
Plain black. So fashionable.
Next task: finding my goggles, which are buried in some random box from when we relocated. That should be fun.
On a lighter note, I have a good update on Lily!
She went to the vet on Monday (she *hates* the car ride, as you can tell) and everything was great! Nothing showed up on an ultrasound of her bladder, so it must have just been a blood clot on the other one. Her renal function is normal and her UTI is gone. She also had a cyst in her ear, which they drained and it was just fluid. So in other words, my girl is still going strong
