Hey guys! Hope your week is off to a great start. I don’t know about you but I’m super thankful for daylight savings time. I loved that extra hour of sleep yesterday!
Can we please talk about our weekends? Because mine was awesome. I spent Friday evening and Saturday in Roanoke, VA with one of my good friends, Allie. We met each other in band class in middle school and have been friends ever since!
Roanoke
I left for VA from work on Friday and let me tell you, it was a rouggggh drive. Please note that I still use my Garmin purchased in 2008.
It was freezing, dark and pouring down rain…. I was soooo happy to see Allie when I finally arrived!
I didn’t get there until 8pm and in light of the yucky weather, we decided to forgo our original Halloween plans and hang out at home for the evening. We had the perfect girls’ night eating Halloween candy, drinking wine and catching up on life.
Allie got us Halloween light-up cups. Yes, we are 28 years old.
We watched some episodes of Bad Judge on Hulu and I think that might be my new favorite show. If you haven’t seen it yet then I recommend checking it out ASAP. You will laugh.
I also got to meet Z, a dog that Allie’s roommate rescued last year. He was so sweet! Although, I did feel like I was cheating on Lily and Beamer a little bit
Speaking of Allie’s roommate, turns out we have a lot in common.
On Saturday morning, Allie and I went to the gym and then she made brunch for us! We had spinach omelets, fresh fruit and bacon.
We went to the movies that afternoon and Gone Girl, which was very…. strange? Disturbing? I’m still not quite sure how I feel about the movie, especially the ending.
Later, we had a late dinner at Lucky in downtown Roanoke. I’m from Roanoke and lived there for 3 years after I finished undergrad, so Allie wanted to take me somewhere I had never been before. This restaurant opened after I moved and did not disappoint!
We started off with drinks and I got the Fresh 95. I can’t recall the exact ingredients but I think it involved gin, orange something and champagne.
We ordered the large bread plate an appetizer. This should be no surprise because Allie and I both love bread. Carbs. Mmmmm.
The dish came with 2 different types of bread, goat cheese, olives and one other spread that I *think* was made from figs. Ah-mazing. And if things weren’t good enough, our waiter brought us an extra bread: cranberry walnut with butter. I guess he thought we really loved bread? I mean, we do, so yeah
I ordered the special for dinner, which was rockfish over clam chowder topped with onion rings.
Allie got the steak.
Everything was great! If you are ever in the Roanoke area then I highly recommend this restaurant.
And then we came home and went to sleep <3
Blacksburg
After some breakfast and coffee on Sunday morning, Allie and I said our goodbyes and I hit the road. The drive from Roanoke to Charlotte takes you right through Blacksburg and I couldn’t help but stop and say hello to my alma mater!
I went to the bookstore first because I’m in serious need of some new Virginia Tech apparel. I ended up trying on approximately 1,000 articles of clothing and picking up a bunch of other things that I absolutely do not need.
I settled on some new shirts, a lanyard, water bottle and a new decal for my car.
Go Hokies!!
After spending way too much money, I walked around campus for a bit. I love Virginia Tech so much and I had some of the best times there. Even though it was a quick trip and I was by myself, yesterday afternoon brought me a lot of happiness!
Did you do anything fun this weekend?
Do you love your alma mater as much as I love mine? Do you ever get a chance to visit campus?
Have a great week!!
Is that wine in the light up Halloween cups? You finally saw Gone Girl… and it appears you had the same reaction that I did. Did you like it (if that should even be a question when it comes to a movie like that)? Looks like you had a great weekend with your friend and had fun visiting your alma mater. I love my alma mater, so much so that I work there. :)
Ha, yes it is! Turns out drinking wine through a straw is not too great :) I don’t even know how I feel about Gone Girl! I want to say I liked it because the story was so unpredictable, but then the thought of the plot actually happening in real life is disturbing and I didn’t like the ending. So I’m undecided. That sounds fun working for your alma mater… I actually thought on Sunday that it would be cool if I worked at VT!
What a fun weekend. And I loooooove bread too. That could be my dinner
I am a Colorado State University grad and yes I do love my Rams!!!
How is your knee doing?
I have an update coming tomorrow about it!
