Good morning! Hope all of my American friends out there had a good Thanksgiving yesterday.
Mine was a little different this year because I stayed in Charlotte instead of traveling back to Virginia. I ended up sleeping in, watching the Macy’s parade, reading a bit, going on a nice walk and then going out to eat.
Since I had not originally intended on cooking Thanksgiving dinner, I had 0 groceries at home and didn’t feel like trying to pull something together at the last minute. It turns out there were a lot of restaurants with special Thanksgiving menus, and we ended up going to Red Rocks in Birkdale. We had never eaten there but it’s pretty close to us.
They had a buffet with lots of different holiday options. I got 2 plates because, well, it was Thanksgiving and you can eat whatever you want on Thanksgiving. I got turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, broccoli, green beans, salmon, pasta salad, cranberry sauce and prime rib.
We sampled pumpkin pie, peach cobbler, carrot cake and apple pie. I don’t think I’ll be hungry again for a few days
So going out to eat was a nice back-up plan (added bonus: I didn’t have to cook or clean), but it definitely was not the same as celebrating Thanksgiving at my grandmother’s. I have always associated the holiday with family and it just wasn’t the same this year. I will definitely remember that next year!!
After dinner, I went against all of my beliefs about shopping on Thanksgiving and stopped at Target on the way home. I have always thought stores should stay closed until midnight so employees can spend time with their families, so I’m not sure what came over me last night. I saw that the Target was open and just wanted to see what it was like.
I ended up getting a new carpet cleaner that I had seen advertised online. I felt guilty for my Thanksgiving shopping the entire way home, but I opened the front door to find that one of the dogs had puked on the carpet. Perfect!
I felt like this was God’s way of telling me that I wasn’t an asshole after all.
So I got everything all put together and cleaned up the puke stain. Then I ended up spot cleaning the entire apartment because I had filled the cleanser canister all the way up and wanted to use it all.
And then when I went to empty the dirty canister, I accidentally pulled it out incorrectly and poured dirty water all over myself. In my dress clothes. And on the carpet. The one that I just cleaned.
Karma, man. Karma.
So that was my Thanksgiving. Good times.
I’m off to work today and will probably avoid black friday shopping when I get off. Even though I’m not going to partake in the craziness this year, it got me thinking about all of the times I have gone shopping on this day in the past and all of the different things I have purchased!
My all-time favorite black friday purchase would have to be a Ninja blender that I got for $20 at Wal-Mart. I don’t think they sell the exact model anymore but it’s similar to this one.
This little blender was AWESOME and if you’re in the market for something to make smoothies then I highly recommend it.
Are you buying anything fun today?
Did you do anything special for Thanksgiving?
Have a great weekend!
Sounds like you had a nice Thanksgiving. My family and I watched football, ate a yummy meal, walked around the neighborhood, and went to a movie. It was relaxing! I did a little online shopping, but nothing out and about at any of the stores. My favorite purchase was a new cycling and triathlon kit from SOAS – they were 30% off and never go on sale, so I was very happy! Enjoy the rest of your weekend. :)
Sounds awesome! Are you planning on doing a tri next year?
I have a Ninja blender too. It’s one of my all time favorite kitchen tools! $20 is a steal.
Yes, it definitely is! I still sometimes use mine as a food processor even though it isn’t my primary blender anymore.
