It’s been a week since I got a cortisone injection in my knee and I thought I’d share how it’s going so far.
In terms of discomfort, the day of the actual injection was the worst. Getting the shot obviously wasn’t fun, but that morning and afternoon my knee didn’t really bother me. My doctor told me the injection had some numbing medication in it so I guess that’s why.
But that evening…. omg. I could hardly lift my leg. It was really, really sore. I ended up icing it for 30 minutes, taking some pain meds and going to bed.
On a scale of 1 to 10, my knee pain was a 5-6 the days following the cortisone injection (baseline is a 3-4). It started easing up over the weekend and yesterday was the first day where I didn’t feel constant pain.
It still hurts when my leg is in certain positions (like when my foot is sitting flat on the floor, or when my legs are crossed) but I definitely think I’m on the upswing now.
I also have a teeny little bruise.
I’m supposed to wait until I feel no pain at all to I ease back in to exercising. I think at this point that this may not happen until next week. Wouldn’t that be a great way to start the New Year?
