It’s hard to believe that this year has come and gone. Time flies!
2-0-1-4 has been a big year for me. I rang in the new year at home with a glass of champagne and the Inman Review in my lap. I was studying hard for the RD exam, which I passed on January 2nd. It was a great way to start the year!
I had been a school nutritionist for over 5 years, and officially becoming a registered dietitian opened up many doors for my career. After a lot of thought, prayer and soul-searching, I said goodbye to working in schools and accepted a job as a clinical dietitian in July.
Stepping outside of my comfort zone and changing fields was scary, but in change we find growth, and my new job has ended up being really great for me. My professional strengths and weaknesses at that point in my life really did not match up with making school menus, and I have ultimately been so much happier working in a hospital seeing patients.
Becoming a registered dietitian was a really long journey for me and there were so many times where I thought about throwing in the towel. Now that I was able to finally reach the end of that road and have started a new chapter in my life, I am so, so glad I didn’t give up. If someone out there is experiencing something similar, just keep chugging along. Take everything day by day, celebrate each accomplishment (no matter how small) and you will eventually make it
2014 will also be the Year of the Road Bike for me, because I finally took the plunge and made the big purchase!
I looooove my bike but unfortunately, I haven’t been able to enjoy riding too much because of a nagging knee issue. I’m happy to report that my knee is feeling a lot better after my cortisone injection and I’m hopeful that I will be back on my bike soon enough!
And most importantly this year… I had always wanted to have a nutrition blog, but I wanted to wait until I officially became a registered dietitian to create one. So in late January, shortly after I passed the RD exam, Grapefruit & Granola was born! Blogging has been fun for me and one of my favorite blogging moments this year was doing a guest post for KERF all about my job as a school nutritionist. This blog has turned into more than I everrrrrr expected. Thank you so much for letting me share a little piece of my life with you this year!
As we close the door to 2014 and look forward to what will come in 2015, I wish you guys all a year of good health, fun and happiness <3
Looks like a great year overall!! Wishing you a great 2015.
Thanks, Jen!
What a great 2014 for you! Can’t wait to see what 2015 brings :)
Thanks! Happy New Year!!
