Hey there. Hope things are winding down this week and getting ready for the weekend!
Thank you so much for the kind thoughts about my mom’s surgery. Everything went well and I’m happy to report that she’s resting at home now
Wednesday started out bright and early when my alarm went off at 6am and I finished getting my things together to go out of town. I planned on spending the night in the hospital with my mom, so I was dealing with the task of determining the fine line of packing what I needed without bringing *too* much crap. We’ve all been there, right?
I got to the hospital a little later that morning and hung out in the waiting room until my mom was transferred from PACU into her room. The surgeon reported that everything went really well. Yay.
A few things happened while I was waiting….
*I realized the hospital has a piano in their lobby and volunteers come and play throughout the day. It was pretty calming listening to that while I was waiting. I liked it.
*Some families ignore hospital policies about not bringing child visitors into the hospital during flu season. And then they cause a scene and get upset about it when the hospital enforces the policy. Not cool. The flu is crazy right now.
*The hospital had some weaaaak wifi. Neither my computer nor iPad would connect to their wireless internet, and the prospect of facing 24+ hours without it was kind of scary.
Once my mom was settled into her room, I headed down to the cafeteria to check out the food situation and grab an early dinner. I was really craving a hot meal but went at a weird time between lunch and dinner and ended up getting a sandwich.
Oh yeah, I also grabbed a few other things. Sometimes, ya just gotta have some awesome snacks.
I’m so glad everything went okay with my mom and that I was able to spend some time with her the past few days. I kind of owe her one (or two… or ten) since I have absolutely no idea what I would have done without her when I had my tonsils out last year! I’m hanging out with her today and then going back to work this weekend.
Hope you have a great weekend!
Is the flu going around where you live?
What are you up to this weekend?
I definitely hear ya on the tonsils experience, oh my goodness I would not have survived without my mom taking care of me too! The flu season is taking a huge toll on the areas I live in Maryland. Love your blog!
Thanks, Kimberly! Getting your tonsils out is the worst!!!!
Flu season seems so bad this year. It makes me mad when people don’t respect flu policies, like do you not understand the consequences!
I know!!! And I also hate it when people have the flu but are still out and about, or they come to work. It’s like… stay. home.
So glad your mom’s surgery went well! The flu hasn’t been going around too bad here, thank goodness, but the school I work at just started back up, so I’m sure it will be spreading like wildfire if or when it does hit.
I’m glad it hasn’t hit you guys yet! (Although I kind of agree with you about the school thing unfortunately)
I’m 39 weeks pregnant right now so please excuse this random comment but WOW does that sandwich look GOOD! Hospital food seems to be improving; or I’m just really hungry (as usual) so everything looks good.
My mom also just went through surgery recently (on New Years eve). I hope your mom has a speedy recovery!
Thank you!
The sandwich was good! It was made to order so I could pick pretty much whatever I wanted to put on it. The only bummer was they had just run out of wheat bread, so I got rye instead. I thought this hospital’s cafeteria was generally pretty good. I work in a hospital and enjoy their cafeteria as well.
I’m glad to hear your mom is doing well! The flu always seems to get crazy in Texas, yikes.
Thanks, Lora!
