Hey everyone. I hope you had a great weekend!
I knew I had to bite the bullet this weekend and really get down to unpacking all of my stuff. Moving was physically exhausting for me because of my recent knee surgery, so I basically moved my stuff in and have been tripping over boxes since then. Lily hasnβt been too impressed with the whole process. Less room to play and all.
I donβt know if anyone else experiences this when they move, but packing basically happens in 3 stages for me:
Stage 1: Starts the second I find out Iβm going to move. I begin neatly packing things in organized boxes. Tape, bubble wrap and labeled boxes are involved.
Stage 2: Transition to this stage the week prior to the move. I realize I have a lot of packing left to do so things become *a lot* less organized. Forget bubble wrapβ¦ Iβll keep my fingers crossed that nothing breaks.
Stage 3: The night or two before the move. Donβt understand how I have so much crap left to packβ¦ just start dumping things in boxes and figure Iβll sort everything out when Iβm unpacking.
So yeah, unpacking the stage 1 boxes was a breeze. Things got a little more hairy with the stage 2 boxes. And I spent 75% of the weekend unpacking the stage 3 boxes. Letβs just say there was a lot of wine and cursing involved. And Iβve been dumping all of my empty boxes on my front porch because my driveway is really longβ¦ Iβm sure my neighbors love me.
My living room and kitchen are completely unpacked, my bedroom is somewhat unpacked, and Iβm still keeping the door closed on my guest bedroom Oh, and I have flowers on my front porch.
Things I need to do now:
– Figure out a bedroom furniture situation. Yeah, I donβt have any right nowβ¦ but hey, I love a clean slate! If you have any suggestions then please send them my way!
– Purchase a drill. And learn how to use it <βwho knew so many things need to be drilled? This should be interesting.
– Pick out a new salt and pepper shaker set. Seems simple but is actually serious business.
What did you do this weekend?
Ladies- serious question. Do you know how to use power tools?
I have absolutely no idea how to use a power tool. I can somewhat functionally use a hammer, but even then, I sometimes hit my thumb instead of the nail :(
Ha, okay, glad I’m not the only one :)
I am in the same boat as you right now trying to put the finishing touches on furniture/dΓ©cor for a few rooms. Starting with a clean slate can be exciting and scary all at the same time. It’s amazing how quickly it can add up. Did you have any help during your move? I sure hope so. How are you doing otherwise? I think about you from timeβ¦
I have a pink toolkit and drill. I know, so stereotypical right? The funny thing is, my husband uses MY toolkit more than he uses his. I always give him a hard time when he uses the βpinkβ tools. Youβll learn how to use a drill in no time.
My sister and her boyfriend helped me move. Actually, I shouldn’t even say “helped” because they completely loaded and unloaded the truck. I moved a lot of boxes beforehand so by the time moving day came, I was pretty spent. I have no idea what I would have done without them. In hindsight, I wish I had just hired movers but at the time it seemed unnecessary because I wasn’t moving too much furniture. My knee is still the same, unfortunately. I’m working on a post about it that I think will be ready next week but right now I’m thinking about seeing a chiropractor.
I definitely looked at a pink tool set! But then I thought that I might need a guy to show me how to use it, and I don’t want to be judged :) haha
No clue how to use power tools haha. We just got a new ultrasound/stim combo unit at work and my boss had asked me to read the manual to kind of get familiar with it and teach my coworkers about it, and after I was like “umm, am I supposed to mount this on the wall, like it says here…because yeah don’t know if that would be such a good idea” Ha. There’s always YouTube though, right? ;).
Youtube is always the solution for everything
I love your flower pots! It’s crazy how sometimes something as simple as a plant on the steps can make a new place feel like home.
I have never used a drill, but I like to think I could. I mean, how hard can it be? Hah! I think the actual drilling part would be simple, but know how far to drill and how to find the right spot in the wall to drill into would be the more difficult part. When hanging heavy things (like a TV) I think you’re supposed to drill right into the beam (?) behind the wall for stability.
I know, right? Just stick the drill bit in there and hit the button.
Those flower pots are sentimental to me because when I bought my first house, my grandmother sent me a check and I used it to buy those pots. So now I think of her whenever I see them :)
Here’s a tip for packing fragile items: Leave at least one inch of space from the last layer to the top of the box for added packing material. Don’t forget that proper packing is essential for a stress free move and successful unpacking.
