THANK THE LORD IT IS FRIDAY!
Sorry, just had to get that out of my system.
Heist
Last night I went to a local dietetics association meet-up. It was at Heist Brewery in NoDa. It was a long day for me but I basically went for two reasons (other than the obvious of hanging with fellow RDs)β¦. 1.) I want to live in NoDa and am currently trying to figure out how to make that happen. And 2.) It had been way too long since I had been to Amelieβs.
I had never been to Heist but I really liked it. There is a nice outdoor seating area, live music, a full bar and food. I donβt like breweries without foodβ¦ who wants to drink and not have an option to eat?
There was a good turnout and Iβm hoping to make it to some more association meetings this year.
Amelieβs
After the social, I dropped by Amelieβs to pick up a few desserts. Amelieβs is a french bakery and they have a TON of amazing desserts. Thereβs lemon raspberry tart is waiting for me in my fridge as we speak. I also got a caramel salted brownie, which I ate it in the car
If you are ever in the Charlotte area then you need to go to Amelieβs. Trust.
Nutrition in the News
Data, while promising, insufficient for recommending elimination diets in IBS

For sugar lovers, FDA’s proposed guidelines are not so sweet
The brewery scene in NC/SC is definitely a happening one- would love to check it out sometime… probably not a bad idea for me to also check out a local dietetics meeting as well, ha. Have a good weekend!
I have been a member of our local association for the past 2 years but have not been very active. I’d like to get more involved this year to get to know more local RDs better. I’m not much of a beer drinker the the craft beer scene in my area is off the chain. It actually makes me wish I liked beer, LOL.
Really enjoy the nutrition in the news. As a fellow RD, it’s hard to keep up with everything, nutrition-related, so having other RD’s posting things is a great help :)
Hi Courtney! I’m glad you’re liking them. I love staying up-to-date with new findings with fellow RDs… info is constantly changing.
I found the article about IBS earlier this week and it made total sense to me. I did the low FODMAP diet for several weeks this past summer and it helped manage symptoms, but didn’t help with the constipation (the main reason I started it).
I’m glad to hear the meeting went well- I thought about going but my class didn’t get out until late :/. We have an Amelie’s in Rock Hill and I love it’s coziness! They took my macaroon virginity. I gave it way gladly. :)
I’m sure IBS is super frustrating. You kind of get to a point where you are willing to try anything, so I understand why people try elimination diets. I was looking for you at the meeting! I think I am going to try to go to the next one because it is about my old friend, school food service :) I am jealous that you have an Amelie’s near you. Even when I lived in Charlotte, Amelie’s was 25 minutes away… and it is always super crowded, so it’s hard to sit down and be able to enjoy your dessert/coffee. Hope you are enjoying your holiday weekend!
At first I thought you were referring to “NoDa” as “North Dakota” — and I was like WHAT?! Hahaha. Sounds like a fun place, though!
IBS is just obnoxious because you never know what it’s going to hit you regardless as to WHAT YOU EAT – coming from someone who KNOWS!! UGH. It is more dictated by the time of day for me, which is so weird. PM comes around and I am SHOCKED when/if I don’t get a stomach ache!
That stinks… I’m sorry! I hope research finds more info for IBS relief because it affects so many people.
