Hey guys! Happy Monday. I took a few days off from blogging to celebrate Thanksgiving with the fam, but I’m back in action today! Here’s a recap of my Thanksgiving week/weekend:
Thanksgiving
My family celebrates Thanksgiving at my grandmother’s every year, and I hitched a ride with my sister and her boyfriend to make the trip to VA. I was super *thankful* that I didn’t have to make that drive alone!
We hung out with grandmother on Wednesday and my sister and I helped get things ready on Thursday morning.
I fixed roasted brussels sprouts (this recipe is amazing) and maple-glazed carrots (used this recipe) and both dishes turned out well. We had a ton of food!
I feel so fortunate to be nearing my 30s and still be able to spend holidays with my grandmother. My trips to VA always make me feel like I should visit more.
It’s always nice to see the whole fam… it’s not nice when your sister fails to mention that her fuchsia ‘favorite lip gloss’ is named lip tattoo until after you put it on your lips. That lip gloss lives up to its name, in case you are looking for something that has to practically be scraped off of your lips
Friday
I didn’t get back to NC until super late Thursday night, so I decided to forgo the Black Friday craziness and sleep in. No regrets. I went out to lunch at Tupelo Honey Café… a pretty salad seemed appropriate after the food overload from the day before!
The main highlight of Friday? Being reunited with this furry girl!
Lily had been staying with her dad ever since I was put on crutches for my torn tendon. I tried to keep her for the first week, but she was scared of my scooter and walked under my crutches. I was sad when I realized I couldn’t take care of her, but I knew she would be happy and well cared for her with her dad and Beamer.
Life hasn’t felt normal without her and picking her up made me so happy. I was a little worried about how she would act after being away for over a month, but she ran inside like she owned the place and was sleeping/snoring in her dog bed within about 30 minutes.
It’s funny how much a pet makes life feel complete
Weekend
I mostly chilled out over the weekend to recover from a week of 2 different trips to Virginia. The most exciting thing that I did was watch the VT / UVA game (aka the Commonwealth Cup). VT needed to win to secure a bowl game, and it was Frank Beamer’s last regular season game of his career. UVA is our rival and we’ve beaten them in the past 11 seasons.
We ended up winning after being up by 3 and intercepting a pass with a minute left in the game. The moment we intercepted the ball and knew we had won, Frank Beamer, Bud Foster and Shane Beamer all hugged each other… it was such a great moment. I was so happy that Frank Beamer could end his career with one last win. They show a clip of it around the 0:25 second mark if you’re interested in seeing it:
In Carolina football news, the Panthers won against the Cowboys and are now 11-0. Crazy!!
I also got a Christmas tree, which has yet to be decorated
How was your holiday week/weekend?
What is your favorite Thanksgiving food item? I love mac and cheese.
