Hey guys! Sorry this post is a little late… I’m currently in Austin, TX for a conference and have been super busy!
Checking in from Week 2
Last week was all about fiber and I’m curious to know how it went for you! Please check in and leave a comment below!
I feel like fiber is kind of tough to fit in but also super important for health and satiety. I hope everyone did well last week!
Week 2 Giveaway
Congrats to *DONNA* for winning the infusion water bottle from last week’s giveaway. Donna, please email me your address and I will be sure to get your water bottle to you!
Week 3 Challenge
Alright, guys. It’s time for the next challenge…
Your challenge this week is to get the recommended amount of fruit servings each day. These recommendations are:
Ladies: 1.5 – 2 cups per day
Gentlemen: 2-2.5 cups per day
Click here for your food diary.
This may seem like a simple challenge but the average American does not consume the recommended amount of fruit servings. Furthermore, 1/3 of our fruit servings come from fruit juice.
Let’s back track to last week. Does anyone remember a big different between fruit juice and whole fruit?
Fiber.
Fruit juice lacks the fiber that provides all of those health benefits and helps us feel full! We really should be trying to limit our juice intake and get our fruit servings from whole fruit instead.
Rule for Week 3
Because of this ^^^^, we will not be counting fruit juice towards our fruit goal. Let’s try to get our fruit servings from whole sources this week.
Tips for Increasing Your Fruit Intake
Eating fruit during the summer comes easily for me, but it gets a little tough during the winter. Here are some tips to fit your fruit in:
- Add fruit to your breakfast! Whether you are eating oatmeal, cereal, greek yogurt, or cottage cheese, fruit is the perfect companion
- Fruit is awesome to add with a snack to help sneak in a little bit of fiber and hold you over until the next meal
- Smoothies are a great way to add a fruit serving or two into your day!
Good luck this week!
Questions for my boot campers:
How many points did you earn last week?
Was getting enough fiber easy or difficult for you?
How was your water intake this week?
I’d love to hear how things went for you! Have a great week
Only 3 points this week. Water intake still good. Working on step counter.
Glad your water intake is going well!
I only earned 3 points as well. It is hard for me to stop and look up the fiber while I am at work. It is easier later in the day when I am at home.
You can always keep a food diary and look e up everything at the end of the day :) if you just remember whole grains, fruits, veg and legumes = more fiber.
Fibre intake and water intake are going well. I find getting fruit in easy but I am not good at getting in a variety of fruits. I typically stick to bananas, berries and sometimes grapes or oranges. Because of this I really want to try and add in some different types of fruit this week. I am aiming to try at least 3 types of fruit that I do not typically have. I also think my step count is woefully low a lot of the time. I don’t have a Fitbit but I have become aware that I am far to sedentary outside of the gym. I really want to work on increasing my incidental activity this week as well and just being more active generally.
I’ve noticed that as long as I get my snacks in (primarily my fruits) I don’t have trouble getting in my fiber. I didn’t track my food Saturday and Sunday (and I don’t want to try to remember what I ate!). I wasn’t great at getting steps in either. But I got in my water all week! Only 6 points for me this week.
Great tip on the smoothies! I made one yesterday as an afternoon snack.
6 points this week!
11 points for me during fiber week and 13 points during fruit week. I’m currently training for a half marathon, so steps have been no problem. Fruit was easy too because I LOVE fruit. Fiber was a bit challenging—normally I eat a lot of fiber, but I actually cut back a little bit because (TMI) fiber messes with my stomach when I’m running.
Vegetables scare me, so I’m checking in right now to hold myself accountable for getting in my veggies this week. I’m not a huge veggie fan, so I think this week is going to be the most challenging for me. However, I’m currently eating a bowl of vegetable soup, so I’m proud of myself! :) Happy Tuesday!
