Hey guys! I know I’ve been a little MIA these past few weeks but I promise it is for good reason. I’ve been getting things squared away for my big move next month.
Roommate? Yes? No?
A few weeks ago I mentioned that I was thinking about getting a roommate but couldn’t decide. The very wise Kristen suggested that I make a list of the pros and cons of living with someone. This was mine:
|I would feel safer||Lack of privacy|
|Someone to hang out with!||Possibility of it not working out|
|It would be more fun|
|Possibly walk Lily in a pinch|
|Split rent and utilities|
I quickly realized that my pro list was longer than my con list and felt that getting a roommate would be a better situation for me right now. I found a roommate and I’m excited!!
To be completely honest, my hesitation with getting a roommate has been 2 awful experiences in college. Both of these situations involved my roommates letting their boyfriends move into our apartment (like, completely move in and live there) and neither ended well. But I did discuss this with my new roomie and I feel like we are both on the same page about what our lives are like and what living arrangements we would be happiest with.
So here’s where I’ve been a little MIA. I have been driving back and forth to Charlotte to check out apartments for the past 2 weeks. We actually had what I would describe as a nightmare apartment shopping day on Sunday. For those of you familiar with Charlotte, we had focused our search to Uptown, Plaza Midwood, NoDa and South End. We made our list of apartments to look at with a plan to sign a lease at our first appt (top choice) as long as we liked it on the tour.
So we go to the first appointment only to find out that the unit had been leased the day before.
We toured several other apartments but didn’t like them.
We randomly stopped at a last apartment and loved it, but decided to think about it since we just randomly drove by it and had no researched the unit yet. We decided we wanted it but the people after us had leased it!!! Please look at this kitchen that we lost out on
Settling on Plan B
I had looked at a unit the day before our search and thought it would be a suitable plan B if we were in a pinch. So I talked to their leasing office but found out that unit rented, too!
I started to panic a little bit worried that we were running out of options. We both have to be out of our current places by the end of May and most places require 60 days notice… in other words, what was available now is what we had to work with. After a lot of discussion, we settled on an apartment that was in my roommate’s top choice of location and my top choice for kitchen and storage space. I think it was a good compromise and I am just happy that we have found something!
I will be sure to post pics once we are moved in Here are some pros that I’m excited about:
- Popular part of Charlotte but in a quiet area
- Close to interstate so commuting will be a littttle bit easier
- Not a huge complex so getting Lily outside won’t be crazy (couldn’t imagine taking her on an elevated from the 6th floor every time she has to go out)
- $20 YMCA membership offered (consolation since they don’t have a workout room)
- Awesome kitchen!
- 1 month free rent… that definitely doesn’t hurt
Lily’s excited, too. She just says to make sure to move her bed.
Questions about moving:
Have you moved a lot recently? I thought when I bought my house 7 years ago that I’d never move again… funny how life changes
Movers? Move yourself? I’ve done both. Love having movers but it seems like a waste when you are living in a smaller place.
Must-haves? Our #1 was location. My personal #2 was storage space followed by #3 the kitchen.
