So yesterday I had a bit of a hectic morning. Let’s just call this story “Sam Needs to Get AAA”.
I got in my car to drive to work and thought my car was driving funny as I rode out of my neighborhood. I stopped and realized I had a flat tire!
I drove back to my apartment and kind of started to panic. It has been almost 13 years since I’d learned how to change a flat so I had no idea what to do. Micah tried to help me but he was going to be late for work, and B was sitting on a runway waiting to take off on a work trip.
I pulled out my trusty owner’s manual and got to work trying to change it myself. I figured out the jack pretty quickly but could not get the lug nuts loosened because of the cast on my wrist. Finally a nice gentleman walking to work stopped and helped me. He was actually complimentary of what I had been able to do by myself, which made me feel not completely worthless, and he got my spare on.
I took my car to a nearby place and they found that there was a large gash in the tire that was too large to be patched. They were able to bring in the exact tire that is already on my car but it took all day (they recommended not putting on a different brand because the tread would be different).
The Crispy Crepe
I thought my car was only going to take an hour or two, so I spent the morning walking around South End and decided to have breakfast down there. I went to a new-to-me restaurant called The Crispy Crepe– I had been wanting to eat there for a while!
Their menu had all sorts of delicious breakfast foods (I was so close to going with a waffle) but I ended up ordering the Chef’s Omelette (3 eggs, feta cheese, roma tomatoes, spinach and onions). I really wanted to try a crepe but I was in the mood for eggs that morning. They have fresh fruit or au gratin potatoes as side choices and I decided to go with the potatoes.
I thought my omelet was really good and I definitely want to go there again for lunch or dinner. Some of the crepes I want to try are the smoked salmon, egg, herb and goat cheese, Mediterranean chicken, and apple and brie.
Paint Swatches
After breakfast, I walked down to Lowe’s and picked out some paint swatch options for my night stand. I was still trying to decide between purple, pink or teal.
Micah and I looked at all of the swatches last night and I think I’m going to go with a lighter purple color. I already have a lot of teal in my room so it will be nice to add a pop of another color, and I think a light color will be a nice contrast to the dark top. We narrowed it down to these 3 colors: silverberry, violet cache, or wild lilac.
Today
I have today off of work. I’m going to do some cleaning this morning, try to go to the Y to do some cycling, and then take my mom to the airport this afternoon. We were supposed to go to a Knight’s baseball game last night but no one was feeling it, so we might go tonight instead.
Do you know how to change a flat tire?
Do you usually eat at the same places over and over again, or do you purposely try to go to new places?
I know how to change a flat tire, but I have never had to change one, so I’m not sure how it would actually go. I like to think I’d be fine, but who knows. I am bad about going to the same places over and over again, but we have been making it a point to try new restaurants.
That is exactly how I was… I knew how to do it but it ended up not going very well :) My main mistake was lifting the car up with the jack before loosening the lug nuts. The wheel will spin once it’s up in the air so you really have to do that first. I think I would be able to do it no problem next time! P.S. I always try to comment on your blog but can’t. I’m not sure if there’s an option to comment by just using your name and email but I was going to say that one of my running goals is to complete a half marathon at some point. Right now running is a weakness for me, but I’m hoping to turn that around soon!
Ooh that’s a good point about the lug nuts–I’ll keep that in mind if I ever actually have to change a tire on the fly. :) I think you can comment with just your name and email by choosing the Name/URL option from the drop down box, but I’ll look into that. You should definitely do a half marathon at some point–they are long enough that you feel very accomplished, but not so long that it takes over your whole life! :)
I’m impressed that you tried to change the tire yourself, especially with a cast on! I think I could change my own tire now that I’ve watched Adam do it … but I don’t know if I would be willing to drive the car after I changed it myself ;) If Adam wasn’t around I would probably call AAA! My mom got me AAA when I was in college and she keeps renewing it for me every year … moms! haha
