Hey there friends! Hope you’re having a good week
Last night I met my mom and John at Hickory Tavern for dinner. I got the build your own salad with shrimp and it was really good! I actually haven’t loved their salads the past few times I’ve gotten them and I think it’s because I’m chicken-ed out. The shrimp was an awesome addition!
I also did one of my brick workouts for the week: 40 minute cycle + 15 minute run. Thank you to the Real Housewives of New York City for seeing me through.
P.S. LuAnn is seeming extra lame this season with her engagement talk.
I’m trying to incorporate more foam rolling into my fitness regimen and had a few questions:
- How often do you foam roll?
- Do you mainly do your legs or do you do other areas (I saw all of these things online about foam rolling your back)?
- If rolling your IT bands supposed to hurt like $h!t? Because that’s what it feels like to me!
Wrist Update
I went to the ortho for a follow-up appointment for my wrist. I thought I was basically going to be free of restrictions after this appointment- but after a follow-up set of x-rays and a pretty painful physical exam, the PA recommended that I continue to immobilize my hand for a few more weeks.
She gave me the option of going back into a cast or wearing a brace, and we talked about this particular bone (scaphoid) is really slow to heal, especially when you are moving your wrist. I wore a brace prior to getting my first cast and I took it off all the time… for showers, washing dishes, blow drying my hair, doing my makeup, typing on the computer and oh yeah, anytime I didn’t feel like wearing it. Basically 90% of the time. So after talking about it with her, I decided to just go back into a cast.
This color didn’t look quite as much like hot pink in the package. Yes, I am a 5 year-old girl.
When I go back for my next follow-up in a few weeks, I’m supposed to definitely get my cast off then. I will be 2 months out from my fall and the PA said she felt comfortable at that point letting me wear the brace as I felt was needed.
Triathlon Plans
My doctor told me that his PA has completed 3 ironman triathlons so I definitely came prepared to talk about training with my wrist and a cast. I really enjoyed the discussion and appreciated her taking the time to answer all of my questions.
The Bad News
The bottom line is that there is no way I’m going to be as conditioned as I would like for the swim. I cannot swim right now and even when I get my cast off, I’m supposed to ease back into swimming. This is a bummer for me because I was going into this tri plan feeling like swimming was my strength.
The Good News
She said I would 100% be able to do the triathlon by September, and that I can continue to do all of my running, cycling (indoors on a stationary bike) and strength training as I have been. It stinks that I can’t swim, but I know a lot of people really struggle with the swim anyway.
Overall
I’m kind of feeling “glass half full” about everything with my bike fall. It could have been worse. And at least I’m not riding a scooter around
Are you watching any of the Real Housewives right now? I’m rotating them at the gym… can’t wait to keep watching Teresa come home on the New Jersey season!

Have you ever had a cast? Picking out colors is hard! I like the black lining underneath because it never looks dirty, lol.
That’s too bad it’s not ready to go yet but I think it was smart to put the cast back on. I’d say only like 20% of triathletes are good swimmers- the rest of us just fake it til we make it so I’m sure you’ll be okay since you’ve swam in the past. You have such a positive attitude after all the injuries you’ve had this year- I am still dealing with my chronic tendinopathy in my foot but I’m so bitter about it, lol… so you should definitely be proud of keeping a good outloook!
I was pretty bitter about my knee and foot, but I feel like a bike accident is a bike accident and there is really nothing I can do about it. I also felt really scared mid-fall and was happy I didn’t have a more serious injury! I hope your foot heals soon… sometimes I think tendon issues are the worst.
