Hey guys! Happy Monday and Happy Columbus Day! I am so happy these days to be getting weekends and holidays off. Life. Changing.
I tried to write this post last night but it turns out piecing together sentences while watching the debacle known as the presidential debate was basically impossible. I have mentally recovered this AM. Hereβs a recap of my weekend!
Rainy Weekend
We started out Friday evening and Saturday morning with pouring down rain. Lily refuses to walk in rain. I have raised a diva.
North Carolina got some crazy flooding thanks to the hurricane but Charlotte does not seem to be hit too hard. There were a lot of power outages from fallen trees but we kept our power downtown. I hope everyone reading has made it through Matthew OK!
Plants
Sooooo remember last year when I was an awful gardener and killed almost all of my plants? Well, I tried to be a lot better this summer and actually ended up with pretty large tomato, basil and oregano plants. Now Iβm not sure what to do with them because the weather is getting colder, especially at night.
My tomatoes didnβt grow at all over the summer (despite my plant becoming gigantic) and then the plant went crazy all of the sudden in September. The plant is huge and half of it is dying, but the other half is still covered in tomatoes. It looks so awful on our porch!
Thanks to Lily for helping with this post.
What should I do with my basil and oregano? So far I have taken 1/4 of my oregano plant, blended it with olive oil and frozen it. Not sure if I should dry the rest? Make a years supply of pesto with my basil? Please let me know if you have any ideas!
Breakfast Saturday morning from my harvest: scrambled eggs (1 whole egg + 3 egg whites) with tomatoes and basil.
New Booties?
In other news, I am trying to be more stylish these days and decided maybe I should replace my Danskos and Toms for some booties over the winter. I stopped into the shoe store to try this out.
^ The first pair of shoes I likes were the Carlos Santana Rouen (sale price $60). I liked them but the dips in the side made me wonder if I would be able to wear them with socks. Socks seem good in the winter.
The second pair of shoes, which I loved, were the Jessica Simpson Kymber (sale price $70). Charlotte weather is pretty mild so I think I may be able to wear them through the end of November.
I actually went to buy them but the store wouldnβt accept an online coupon I had. So I decided to just order them online, which I may do today. P.S. Both of these shoes were at Off Broadway and were buy one, get one 50%.
This Week
I plan on relaxing today, adulting a little bit (paying bills, laundry, grocery shopping) and meeting B for lunch. (side note: I need to find a job where I can spend my weekdays like this. If you know of one then please let me know!)
I didnβt have time to renew my YMCA membership last week but I have the form filled out and hope to drop it off tomorrow.
Iβll be gone on vacation during the election (I know, poor planning!) so I need to get my absentee ballot.
I am also working on a side dietitian project and I hope to share details with you soon!
Hope you have a great week!
What did you do this weekend?
Were you affected by Matthew?
Do you wear booties?! What is your favorite style?
I recently switched jobs and now have weekends off too. It really is Life Changing. Lily is so cute starting out at the rain. Those booties are pretty darn cute too!
Thank you! I ended up getting both pair of the booties. Hopefully I can pull them off ;)
I’m glad you weren’t too affected by Matthew!
Did you get a new camera? I always like your pics but they look exceptionally nice in this post! Your tomatoes look delicious!
Thank you! I’ve had a DSLR for a while but for some reason haven’t pulled it out much over the past year or so. I have a Nikon D90 and several different lenses… my favorite for the blog and what I used in this post was a 35 mm f/1.8 lens.
