Hey guys! I hope you have had a good week. I thought I would catch up with you by sharing 5 things from this week.
1. G&G: Behind the scenes
Something I have mentioned here before is that I have always wanted to start my own nutrition company. I started researching the process right when I got my RD but everything seemed too overwhelming to pursue at the time. Slowly the desire has started to creep back up again and I think Iโm finally ready to go for it. My hope is to start out doing a lot of things online and in the evenings while still working full-time. I have done a ton of research and found some great resources to help meโฆ but it still so overwhelming!
Something really disappointing to me is that I had always thought I would call my nutrition company G&G Nutrition so that it could tie into my blog. But then I discovered that the URL ggnutrition is already taken Iโve tried to come up with other URLs related to G&G and they are also taken. I keep going back and forth about whether I want to just use my name as my business name or try to think of something creative.
- I jokingly thought of Bacon and Balance Nutritionโฆ. B loved it. I didnโt think it would be too professional reaching out to physicians.
- My friend Allie came up with: โBattle for Balance Nutrition. Want to win? Call me.โ
- And then my friend Brian thought the name Bodacious Bite Nutrition would be appropriate.
Clearly Iโve got some work to do.
2. Run
I mentioned in my previous post that Iโve been having some allergy/asthma issues. I swapped working spaces at work this week and my breathing issues have 100% resolved. Crazy.
The good news in this is that I am back to working out! And the timing is perfect because the fall weather in Charlotte is lovely for an evening run. My Garmin strap is broken but at the advice of Suzy, I decided to go on a run sans watch. 3 breezy miles not worrying about a pace was just what the doctor ordered.
3. No FNCE
I always want to go to FNCE (the Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo) and each year it ends up not working out! Itโs coming up this weekend in Boston and my instagram feed is creating some major FOMO. My work reimburses for professional development but I didnโt have enough time to get the request in after I started at the end of the summer. I hope all of my fellow RD friends enjoy the conference this year. Next yearโs conference is in Chicago. Iโm keeping my fingers crossed that I will be able to finally go!
4. Homemade Pesto
I took advantage of my giant basil plant and made some pesto earlier this week. Actually, B told me to bring my basil over to his house because he is the โpesto masterโ but then he didnโt even know youโre supposed to put cheese in the pesto. So then I revoked his pesto making privileges and we ended up following this Food Network recipe instead.
Guys, if you like pesto but have never made it yourself then that needs to change ASAP. Making this took < 5 minutes and it was about 1,000x better than anything Iโve found in a jar.
We poured it over shrimp but it of course would have been great over pasta!
5. Ru Sanโs Sushi Buffet
I have lived in Charlotte for 5+ years and no one has ever told me that Ru Sanโs has a lunch sushi buffet! Ru Sanโs is a really good sushi place here and if you ever come to visit then you need to go there. For real.
So we went on Monday and this sushi buffet was the real deal. Like, really good sushi rolls plus a hot bar. The price is insanely cheap (I think $12 oe $13) and I think I ate about $50+ worth of sushi that day. And yes, I know Iโm a dietitian but I think sushi is always unlimited
Did you do anything fun this weekend?
Any good weekend plans? I want to watch the VT game on Saturday and then Iโm going to a brewery for a friendโs birthday!
Have a great weekend
Choosing a name for a business/blog/etc is the hardest! That’s too bad G&G is already taken.
Ugh I know!
You could use ggnutrition.co (co is the domain for company). I know it’s not as ideal as a .com but it’s available (I checked, haha)! That’s great that you are going to start a business. I may be very interested in your services! I have worked in the past with a dietitian that partners with my psychologist, but I haven’t worked with her in a while (and I didn’t particularly like her either tbh!).
Sorry you didn’t like your dietitian!!! :( I actually feel very strongly that RDs should have a ‘niche’ and pick one that they are really great at. I generally find that if your clients don’t like you then you’re not in the right niche.
I think I am going to go with just my name because I’m all about the .com – although I’m mad at the lady who took my ggnutrition!
Very cool that you’re planning on starting your own nutrition company! And that pesto sounds delicious. I’ve never made my own but want to now!
I really hope to make it to FNCE as a paid dietitian next year, haha! I’ve never been but also have some serious envy of those who are there!
I’m so excited you are launching your own practice! I can’t wait to hear about how it goes. Dreams!
I hope so too! I would love to get a group of people together and rent a house or something for the weekend. It’s in Chicago next year! I’m definitely going :)
We will have to chat closer to the time next year! I’d love to join in.
Yes! for sure!
I remember reading about Ru San’s buffet in the Agenda one time. Since then, I’ve been wanting to go! FNCE was very fun, but quite overwhelming. I’ll better know how to navigate it next year!
Ru San’s buffet is magical!
