Hey guys! I have been trying to post this for 2 days but have been dealing with some technology issues. Ugh! Glad things are back up and working again!
I recently got back from a fun, amazing vacation with B and I’m excited to share the highlights with you! This has been the first vacation where I honestly did not want to come back home. It was the perfect mix of resting, relaxing, exploring, and having fun. And so much great exercise and good food.
We visited 3 different Caribbean islands: St. Thomas, Scrub Island and St. John. Each island is so unique that I decided to break this up into 3 separate posts. Enjoy!
St. Thomas
Before I get into the post, I should start out by saying that B pretty much planned everything for this trip, even down to which ferries we should take and at what time. I don’t really love planning vacations, esp travel plans, so I feel super grateful and lucky for that!
We live in Charlotte and we took a direct flight into St. Thomas on Sunday afternoon. We are lucky that we have such a big airport, and the flight was only 3.5 hours long. Sooooo, please tell me to stop talking if I ever complain about B’s work schedule again. He works long hours and travels a ton for work; he stays at Marriott hotels and flies American and we definitely got some travel perks because of that.
Exhibit A: the Admiral’s club in the airport, which feels like paradise compared to waiting at your gate. So many food and drink options!
Exhibit B: We flew American Airlines and were able to upgrade our seats to first class. It was the first time I had ever sat in first class before…. it felt so luxurious
There is only 1 direct flight per day that flies into St. Thomas from Charlotte, and we knew we were going to get in too late to take a ferry to Scrub Island. So we planned to spend the night in St. Thomas and continue traveling the next day. We got to St. Thomas in the early evening.
We stayed at the Frenchman’s Reef, which is a Marriott resort. Check out some of the views from the hotel!
We hung out at the pool for a bit and had a late dinner. We ate at Coco Joe’s, which I think is attached to the Marriott.
We also slept in Monday morning. Coming from a girl who wakes up at 5am, that felt amazing! And yes, I think I could wake up to this every morning.
Iguanas were roaming around outside. They hung out in a little pack and it was really funny to walk by! One of them started running towards us and I ran in the opposite direction screaming. Don’t think I’ll ever live that down.
The hotel had a fantastic buffet breakfast that included healthy options and your favorite breakfast indulgences. I made a lox bagel, my fav! The waitress also sat us at a table that overlooked the water. So pretty <3
After we ate breakfast, we made our way to Scrub Island. Recap coming tomorrow!
We only spent 1 night in St. Thomas but I want to be completely honest in my thoughts of this vacation in case someone else is thinking about taking a trip to the Caribbean. We didn’t really love St. Thomas and it was our least favorite stop on the trip. We both agreed that next time (because YESSSSS there will definitely be a next time ) that we will probably bypass staying St. Thomas and try to arrange travel so that we can go ahead and catch a ferry right after we fly in. I hope I don’t offend anyone who loves St. Thomas… the city just didn’t seem as nice as we were expecting and the hotel was not very relaxing. It has very good reviews and seemed family-friendly, but I just don’t think it was up our ally. Maybe we would have had a different experience had we stayed a few days?
Please tell me:
What is your dream tropical vacation destination?
Are you a beach or mountains person?
Have you ever been to the Caribbean? If so, share details below!!
If you’ve been to St. Thomas then I would love to hear your experience of the island!
So beautiful!! And to think it only goes up from here… I’m glad you got some vacation time. I know that with transitioning to a new job a few days relaxing must have felt magical!
Magical is the perfect way to put it! I felt bad saying we didn’t really like St. Thomas considering that it’s in the Caribbean, but I didn’t want to feel like I was being dishonest in the post either. The vacation definitely went up from there!
This post has me so excited to see you recap the rest of your trip, it looks like y’all had such a fun time while you were gone! The iguana story had me cracking up!
xoxo, SS

This looks like an amazing trip! When I was younger, maybe like 13 or 14,I went on a cruise with my family that took us to St Thomas and some other islands. From what i remember, it was amazing! But we only got to spend 1 day there.
Beautiful pictures! If this was your least favorite part of the trip the rest of it must have been AMAZING!
