Hey guys! Happy Friday to you!
I hope that you had a great week and are gearing up for a great weekend. B has been working on a big project at work that is due next month, so it has been a lot of Lily & Sam time and simple solo dinners around here this week. I actually had the leftover Mother’s Day lunch two days in a row.
I ate cereal last night.
Can I please get a “hell yes” for going out to eat tonight?! And for the weekend.
Private Practice
Soooooo I have been thinking a lot about my blog and my private practice, and what direction I want to take things now that I will be spending more time focusing on my business. The advice you always hear as a business owner is that you really need to pick a niche or an area of specialty, and then become an expert in that. It is hard to go this route when you are starting your own business out of feat of excluding people. But I am starting to see that if I’m talking to everyone then I’m talking to no one. And I’m just kind of ready to take the leap.
If I had to pick a medical condition as a niche then I would definitely select diabetes. I helped out at a diabetes center at my old hospital so I got great experience, and unfortunately there is a huge need for diabetes education given the rise of chronic disease in our country.
Howeverrrrrr, when I think about what I’m really passionate about, it’s helping busy women.
I find that a lot of the information related to health and wellness for women is really geared towards moms and families. I think that is great, but it can also be isolating to women such as myself who aren’t moms, but still want take care of themselves and nourish their minds and bodies. I have talked to many women who fall into this category, and I can even relate to it myself!
I always pictured my G & G readers to be women, but I’ve never actually typed it out here. But now I am, and you will see more content geared towards the nutrition struggles that women especially face- body image, dieting, etc.
I’m excited!
Exercise
In other news, if you follow me on Instagram (@ggnutritionco) then you already know this, but I have tried to really step up my physical activity game now that half marathon training is over. Running really isn’t my favorite so I want to get back to basics and just do physical exercise that I like and look forward to doing. I used to absolutely dread my training runs. That isn’t how exercise is supposed to be!
Sometimes we think that exercise doesn’t count unless it’s super intense or takes place at the gym, but really just getting up and moving is great for your body (and mind!). Here are a few simple things that I have done in the past couple of weeks to step up my activity game:
*Take walking breaks at work- I used to use my break time to go out in the lobby and sit on my phone since I don’t get cell phone service in my office. Now I use that time to walk around the outside of the hospital. It is a great way to clear my mind, and I purposely stay off of my phone since I stare at a computer screen all day already.
*Pull out my bike- insert heart emjoi here. I love riding my bike, even if it’s for a roll around the hood or ride down the greenway.
*Walk instead of drive- one of the benefits of living in the city is being able to walk to places. It’s kind of silly to think that I live within 1.5 miles of mostly everything I need (well, except Sephora) yet I drive everywhere. I’ve made it a point to walk places lately, like restaurants, the drug store and the grocery store, even if it seems inconvenient. The bonus to this is that I don’t have to deal with the hassle of parking!
That’s about it for catching up for today. I hope you have a great weekend!
Do you have anything fun planned?
What’s your favorite form of physical activity?
I’ m really glad that you are going to focus on helping busy women. There are sooooo many reasons why I think this is a great niche for you. First of all because I fall into the category and am always looking for tips so it’s a WIN for me haha. Second, from a marketing perspective I can see so many opportunities for you. There are so many other complimentary but not competitive niches in which you can collaborate to spread the word about your services to new audiences. Plus, busy women tend to have good careers and money to spend on services like yours, so you can charge what you’re worth which is important. I’m very excited for you Sam!
Thanks, Kristina! It is an area that I’m really passionate about, so it just feels natural. And it’s always good when someone wants to invest in my services ;) haha. Hope you had a great weekend!
I have noticed you don’t monetize your site, don’t waste your
traffic, you can earn additional cash every month because you’ve got high quality content.
