Hey friends! I hope you had a happy Labor Day weekend. I love a 3-day weekend, especially when the weather is nice! Here’s a recap of our weekend:
Lily
Our Saturday was an interesting one. We were all hanging out on the couch that morning when B asked me how long Lily had had a giant mole on her face. I looked at it and realized it was a tick. Ewwww. She wouldn’t let us touch her face and our vet wasn’t open. Thankfully I called our groomer and she helped us get it out.
It turns out B has never seen a tick in real life before. I’ve seen them because I grew up around woody areas in Virginia. I’m glad B noticed it on her- it was above her mouth close to her nose and I just don’t pet her there. He had just gotten back from a work trip, so I hope she hasn’t had it for too long. I have no idea how she got it because she literally goes on 2-minute walks on the sidewalk. Poor girl. She seems fine now, though!
Hokies
Virginia Tech played our home opener on Sunday against WVU. I was bummed that I didn’t go to the game (it was near DC and my brother lives there) but we thought we were going to be at the beach this weekend.
We went to a gamewatching event with the alumni association. I love being around Hokies, and I think I’m slowly converting B. Tech ended up winning but it was a close game!
Yard Work
There’s no better way to celebrate Labor Day weekend than adulting and doing yard work. We spread mulch in our front yard and spent some time measuring our back yard (Lily supervised).
We want to landscape part of it ourselves and plant grass in the other part, but we were waiting until cooler weather to start doing that sort of stuff. The entire back yard is tilled and ready to go. It turns out that picking out trees and plants isn’t as simple as we thought. You have to pay attention to whether the root system is invasive, how wide things will grow and what type of sunlight they need. We visited a nursery and hope to settle on things soon. We both have black thumbs so any other advice is welcome!
Food & Fitness
A few meals!
We had a leftover rotisserie chicken on Saturday night so we decided to have that for dinner. We paired it when a new apple cranberry quinoa from Trader Joe’s this and then a side salad.
Another quick meal I had was some shrimp fresh rolls and berries, which I shared on Friday. The main thing I like about fresh rolls is the peanut sauce.
I ‘haven’t been loving the idea of the gym lately (I’d rather be outside) but I had a sweat sesh over the weekend because it is so hot out right now. I did 15 minutes on the elliptical, 10 minutes on the recumbent bike and then a few leg weights.
This Week
I’m really looking forward to this week because I’m officially starting to work on a big G&G project that I’ve thought about for a while. I will share more details soon Our local cycle bar is also selling rides for $17 that will go to hurricane aide in Texas, so I might check that out!
What are you up to this week?
