Hey friends!
I hope you are having a great week! Since I’m winding down 2017 and getting ready for the new year, I thought it would be fun to share a some of our Christmas decorations here on the blog.
This is my first Christmas officially living with B so it was nice to decorate together. I’ve always purchased a live Christmas tree every year, but we decided to go with a fake tree this year. We helped B’s sister put up a fake 7.5’ tree from Costco right after Thanksgiving and immediately knew we wanted to get something similar.
After looking around online and checking out the trees at Lowe’s, we ended up going to Costco and getting the same tree as his sister. It comes in 3 pieces and all you have to do is set up the bottom piece with the tree stand and then place the next two pieces on top of it. You don’t even have to plug them in to each other As much as I love the smell and the feel of a real tree, we appreciated the simplicity of this one.
We purchased these two mini trees in a set from Lowe’s on black Friday (it also had garland and another wreath that we never put out). My mom made this wreath several years ago and I love pulling it out every year. It feels very sentimental even though it’s just a wreath.
As far as the inside goes, I got some little poinsettias to set by the fire place. Lily’s favorite activity around Christmas is to destroy the poinsettias at some point, so I decided to forgo more expensive larger plants.
My mom made everyone’s stockings- mine is actually from my childhood! I purchased a Vera Bradley stocking one year, but it didn’t feel as special so I stopped using it. B got his official stocking from my mom last year… that’s when you know you’re part of the family! I got a few of our other Christmas decorations at the Southern Christmas Show last year.
I had high hopes of decorating wine bottles for Christmas… I purchased this sparkly stuff from West Elm and was going to separate it and stick it out of the top of each bottle. I didn’t realize the bunch was attached at the bottom so I couldn’t pull it apart. So I just stick the wine bottle up on the mantle. Ah, what could have been
A Special Meaning of Christmas
We have had a pretty low key December because Lily had surgery at the beginning of the month. She had the torn ligament repaired in her knee and the tumor removed from under her tail. I haven’t said much about it on the blog because I realized after another one of my blog posts that people have really strong feelings about older dogs going through surgery.
While I can’t say her recovery has been a cake walk, I’m definitely glad we decided to move forward with it. Her tumor came back benign and she’s already back to walking on her leg. She is supposed to take it easy over these next few weeks, but she usually does that anyway I love Lily with all of my heart and I would never want her to suffer or have a poor quality of life. I’m really glad we have a wonderful vet who is very involved in her care that could help us make the best decision for Lily and our family.
Having Lily here for Christmas has been so special. I would always make the best choice for her, but thinking about not having her here for the holidays was really painful. This whole experience was like a reminder that material things in life really don’t matter a lot- a great reminder around the holidays.
Hope you guys are enjoying the holiday season!
