Hey friends! So funny story- I was trying to move to posting on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I accidentally posted my Thursday post on Wednesday. So I thought I would just check in and say hello for those of you who remembered that I said I would be posting on either Thursday or Friday. Or maybe it didn’t really matter, and I’m just over here complicating things.
Also wanted to drop this here in case you needed a reminder. ‘
Work and Life
Thank you to those of you who sent me words of encouragement about my job situation in my last post. It makes me feel better knowing that you’ve been in similar situations and it all ended up working out. I do really like working in a hospital- I think it makes me so much better of a dietitian to have that ongoing hands-on clinical experience. So hopefully I can get picked back up when things get busier.
I will admit that I have really struggled with time management, work-life balance and taking time for myself ever since I left my job last June, so I have been using this transition as an opportunity to focus more on myself. I am the type of person who wants to help everyone and I have a hard time saying no, and I think sometimes G&G and my personal life have suffered for it. One thing I started doing in the new year is trying to structure my day from 8am-5pm even if I’m working from home. If I have an evening client then I rearrange my schedule, but overall it has helped me be more efficient during the day so that I can have a better home life in the evenings. Better work and better personal time seems like a win-win for me :)
Picture of Fitness
One of my clients this week made the comment to me that he/she would likely never be the “picture of fitness”. We got into a discussion about whether there should even be a picture of fitness. What made me sad was realizing that we can exercise regularly and feel great, yet this idea of fitness that society has painted may still make us feel like we’re not doing enough. I don’t really think there should be a picture of fitness, or nutrition, or wellness, because that picture looks so different for everyone. I think having these ideas of what wellness should be or look like is pointless and discouraging to a lot of people. Just continue to do what looks and feels right for you and your life, and I promise you that this will be good enough :)
BabyLiss PRO Nano Titanium Dryer
In other news, my old blow dryer died and I have been on the search for a new one. My hair is super frizzy and takes forever to blow dry, so I’ve navigated towards the medium/higher-end dryers in my adulthood. I have really loved the Solano and BabyLiss brands, but for my lasted replacement I ended up buying a Chi on a whim at Marshall’s.
I ended up being really disappointed in the Chi, which is the same way I’ve felt about many of their products. It was still $50 after markdown and I would rank it as being somewhere in the lower range between a drug drugstore quality and salon quality dryer. It took forever to dry my hair and my hair was still frizzy; so I ended up having to go back over it with a straightener and curling iron. At that price point, I would recommend spending less and going with a Revlon/Conair/drugstore brand or spending a little more on a blow dryer that produces much better results. I also find that the higher quality dryers are much less damaging to my hair, which means I go longer between haircuts. So I ultimately feel like the investment is worth it.
I ended up ordering this BabyLiss Nano Titanium dryer from Amazon and it was delivered the other day. It got good reviews online, and I am really happy with my hair after using it for the first time. To give you an idea- it took about 20 minutes to dry my hair with the BabyLiss compared to almost an hour with the Chi. I do use a ceramic round brush while I’m drying my hair, which I feel like coupled with a nice dryer can give you that same smooth look without needing a straightener. Just wanted to share in case anyone is in the market for new hair stuff!
I hope you guys have a great weekend. If you’re around on Monday, I’m hosting a live Facebook chat at 7pm EST about stress eating!!
