How old were you when you were diagnosed with PCOS? 👇🏼 Share below!

I have been getting a lot of DMs lately from people asking for clarification about whether they have PCOS, so I thought this would be a good refresher.

The Rotterdam criteria is used to diagnose PCOS. You must meet at least 2 of the 3:

1️⃣ Irregular or missing cycles
2️⃣ Elevated androgens
3️⃣ Polycystic ovaries on an ultrasound

A few important things about this:

➡️ Testing androgens can be difficult sometimes, which is why symptoms alone (primarily hirsutism and hair loss) can be used to diagnosed PCOS.

➡️ The types of cysts that burst are not part of the diagnostic criteria (or part of PCOS).

➡️ If there are NO indications of elevated androgens from signs or symptoms or labs, then it's recommended to fully rule out other conditions that can cause missing cycles, especially hypothalamic amenorrhea.
