Have you ever felt a little “crazy” when it comes to your mental health?

In this episode, Sam is joined by National Board Certified Counselor and mental health therapist, Juliet Kuehnle. Juliet is the owner of Sun Counseling & Wellness in Charlotte, NC and author or the book, Who You Callin’ Crazy?! The Journey From Stigma To Therapy.
Sam and Juliet begin the episode by discussing Juliet’s journey to becoming a therapist. They discuss how Juliet became a weight-inclusive therapist, which is sometimes not common with helping professionals.
Sam and Juliet then discuss Juliet’s book and her mission to decrease the stigma around therapy and talking about mental health. They talk about the use of the word “crazy” and how language matters when talking about mental illness. They also talk about some common internalized biases that we may hold about mental health.
In this episode, we discuss:
- Why “clicking” with a therapist is so important
- When it may be time to seek therapy
- How therapy can be beneficial
- Tips for working with a therapist

I just finished listening to this podcast and really enjoyed it! I’ve been seeing my therapist for 25 years now. I got super lucky and found one that is the perfect fit for me. She has given me so many tools to deal with my anxiety. But in addition, she has been a life coach that has helped me navigate so many things – a break up, getting married, having children and how to help with all their different ages and stages, a miscarriage, death of friends and family, relationships, and so much more. This podcast episode makes me feel validated for seeing a therapist for so long. About 8 years ago, I went to see a nurse practitioner who specialized in PCOS. At the first (and only) appointment, she asked a lot of questions during the intake and it came up that I see a therapist. When I told her how long I had been seeing her, she said the therapy was obviously not working if I had to see her for so long. I never went back to see her because we were definitely not on the same page! Thank you so much for bringing light to mental health! Mental health is just as important as physical health.
