Hi friends! It’s been so long since I checked in here and I hate that it is under these circumstances.
I hope everyone is hanging in there as we deal with COVID-19 spreading throughout the country and world. I know these times are stressful and uncertain, but I keep trying to tell myself that this is temporary. Several of my clients are nurses taking care of COVID-19 patients, and I can’t even begin to express my gratitude to *everyone* in the healthcare, grocery and delivery/service industries who are on the front lines during this.
G&G Office Updates
Beginning March 16th, all nutrition coaching appointments have been moved to Telehealth appointments. This means that clients have been able to continue their progress working towards nutrition goals from the comfort of their own home. I plan to continue with Telehealth visits until further guidance from the CDC. I miss seeing everyone in person, but your health and safety are extremely important to me.

How Telehealth Works
All Telehealth visits are held virtually using my client management software called Simple Practice. Prior to your appointment time, clients receive a link via email to access your visit. Clicking on the link will open the virtual visit.
Virtual visits can be done over your computer or on your phone. You can click on the link prior to your appointment just to test out the virtual visit box and make sure everything is working properly.
If you would like to use your phone instead of your computer then the app “Telehealth by Simple Practice” will need to be downloaded on your phone prior to your appointment. When you click on your appointment link, the app will automatically launch on your phone.
What’s Needed for Telehealth Visits
Seeing each other virtually is pretty simple and not a lot of extra technology is needed. The following helps us have the best visit quality:
- A strong internet connection
- A quiet place free of distractions and work
- A set of headphones to prevent echoing on the call
Insurance and Telehealth
I accept BlueCross BlueShield health insurance for residents in North Carolina. Prior to COVID-19, BCBS did not offer nutrition counseling coverage for Telehealth visits. HOWEVER, due to the inability to meet in person during quarantine, they are now transferring whatever coverage you have for in-person visits to also temporarily cover virtual visits. This means that if your plan provides coverage for nutrition coaching as an office visit then they will also cover your Telehealth visits.
Benefits of Telehealth
I have been very happy with how well Telehealth has been working out for my clients over the past few weeks. I know this is a stressful time, but clients have been able to appreciate seeing a familiar face and still being able to receive support for their nutrition goals.
Some popular nutrition topics that have come up on during sessions include troubleshooting obstacles related to limited groceries, trying out new recipes, and nurturing emotional health during this time when you may feel like turning to food.
How to Get Started
