B and I just got back from an amazing trip from Greece. I want to share a recap of our vacation but I have some exciting news that deserves a post of its own.
We’re engaged!
We are so, so happy.I know I don’t talk a lot about him on the blog too much so I thought I would share a little bit more with you today! B and I met each other on match.com. Online dating was an interesting and short-lived experience for me, so much so that I actually stopped logging in and responding to messages less than 2 weeks after I created my account. But a charismatic and hilarious follow-up message from B came across my email inbox one day, and it convinced me that maybe we should meet in person. Our first date ended up being such a nice evening with great conversation, and our relationship just kind of grew from there. B later admitted that he got to the restaurant 30 minutes early because he was worried he was going to be late, and had a pre-game beer because he was so nervous
B works in the financial industry so I just assumed that we would have nothing in common. Despite having polar opposite careers, it didn’t take long for me to realize that we actually complement each other quite nicely. Shared bottles of wine, strolls around the neighborhood with Lilers, a joint failed attempt at a half marathon, and being able to fall asleep beside my best friend every night…. I’ve had so much fun sharing my life with him. I have also been through quite a few changes with my career, and he has always offered unwavering support and encouraged me to follow my dreams.
The Proposal
We have both said from early in our relationship that we made each other really happy and things have just felt natural between us. Moving into B’s bachelor pad earlier this year was a pretty big step for us, and I took it as a good sign when he did not break up with me after I reorganized his closet We started talking about getting married a little while ago and also looked at engagement rings recently. B made a comment about how special it would be if we ended up getting engaged in such a beautiful place like Santorini, so I left for vacation thinking that he mighttttt propose to me while we were there.
Our trip to Greece was 8 days long (not counting two days for travel). We spent the first two in Mykonos where we met up with our friends and then we all traveled together to Santorini. On our second night in Santorini, we had planned to go with our friends to watch the sun set in Oia and then have a seafood dinner together on the water. Watching the sunset in Oia is one of the most popular things to do in Santorini because the view of the sun setting over the water is just stunning, and probably one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen in my life.
I had been sick the day prior but was feeling a little better that day. I spent some time in the afternoon resting and then I got ready for dinner while B read a book on our balcony. Once I was done, I met B out on our balcony to spend some time with him before we met up with friends. Our balcony had an amazing view of the sea and it was lovely to hang out there in the evenings as the sun was setting. We both generally stay really busy at home so we really cherish those few moments where we can just be present and enjoy each other.
It was then on the balcony where he got down on one knee and proposed to me. Even though we had talked about it previously, the moment was so genuine and I was completely surprised. I felt so overwhelmed with happiness, and obviously said yes!
We met up with our friends and celebrated while we watched the sunset. I’m glad we got to celebrate something so happy in such a beautiful place, and it is a day I will never forget.
I found out later that B carried the ring around in his pocket for most of the trip before he proposed. He was afraid to leave it in the hotel safe (there was a written notice that said they weren’t responsible for anything in the safe) so he purchased a special carrying case that securely clips in your pocket for carrying valuables when traveling. Hearing him describe what it was like to carry an engagement around in his pocket through airports, hotels and a place notorious for pickpocketing was hilarious. He really wanted to propose the first night in Santorini, but he decided to wait another day after I was feeling so sick. He also was going to do it earlier in the evening when he thought I was coming out on the balcony, but I ended up just asking him for his opinion on what shirt I should wear to dinner and then I went back inside (welcome to your future, B!) he said he was so happy that I said yes, but he was especially happy that he didn’t have to hide the ring anymore.
Engaged
I know I don’t share a lot about him on the blog, but B is really just the best. He is so kind and thoughtful and caring. I fell in love with him right away, and he has brought so much happiness into my life. The kind of happiness where I go to bed at night truly thankful that we met. He has completely surpassed everything I’d ever hoped to find in a partner.
I know many of you have been reading with me for a while so thank you for letting me share this with you!
People have already started asking us about wedding plans… I don’t think either one of us is in a rush to try to plan something right away, so we are just going to enjoy this time together for now!
Literally so so so happy for you both! I cried a little reading this post :D
CONGRATS on finding the right person to go on adventures like this one with for the rest of your life!
